Film Fest Fun

Ryan and I attended The Offshoot Film Festival in Fayetteville Arkansas. Purpose Pictures submitted "Hey Dad" & Dim Bulbs: "Bed Heads" and won the Award of Excellence for "Best Directing" for Marc Hampson, our first guest Director at Purpose Pictures! We had a blast, we can't wait to come back next year!

In The Works

One of the Films I produced (Purpose Pictures) and starred in, "Before the Lights Come Up," is progressing through Post Production, its going fantastic. I hear great things from the Director.

Another Film I am in, "Tilting at Windmills," is halfway through production. My portion of the Principle photography is over, I love what I've seen and can't wait til I see more!

I was cast and am currently acting in the feature, "There's Something Wrong with Jeff," I don't want to tell you anything about it, but I'm very excited about the project. Its fun and I like the cast a lot!

I have been cast and am looking forward to a film going up next year. I'm not going to say too much, but its being made by Blare Media and some really awesome folks are involved. I may be stepping into a production position to help this come along as smoothly as possible, I love this project and want to be on the team that makes this happen.

Ryan and I are in the script writing phase of a new Feature being Produced by Purpose Pictures. We are very excited and can't wait for it to progress. We'll need your prayers to get this off the ground.

PS, my "1,000 Ways to Die" Episode aired...I was cut out completely and my scene was changed into a different type of story...I'm fine with it, its much less embarrassing that no one has to see it now :)

New Documentary

I have Co-Directed & Produced an important and informative Documentary entitled "Her Majesty's Bahamas" --the story of a close friend's trip to the Bahamas and her realization that "It doesn't matter if you're telling the truth if no one is listening."

We did a screening at LA's "Consuming The Arts" Theatre Project. The initial screening went well, we'll be finishing the Short Doc and be putting it into festivals early next year.

The Measure of a Man

After collecting 5 Film Fest Awards, "The Measure of a Man" has successfully hunted and found a great Domestic Distribution Company. I stepped on board as an Associate Producer and helped get the Production team in touch with some great distribution companies. We are currently finishing negotiations with an international distributor. Things are going very well for them. I cant wait for it to hit the shelves next year! This is my second feature I Produced that will be distributed.

This is quite a combo of time to report on, there is still plenty coming in for October, but I wanted to report on what has happened so far. Since August I have been on trips to Vegas, Texas, worked on Variety's "Power of Women" Event, Did the Announcing work & complimented by Hugh Jackman, took tons of new Headshot sessions, auditions & callbacks galore, threw a Baby Shower for our close friends, & MOVED! Moving took up most of my time, but it was worth it, we love our new place...And other new stuff:

New Theatrical Representation

I signed a Theatrical Contract with Adam Park of The Park Noack Agency in Los Angeles. I am excited about the future with Adam, we'll find out how this goes soon enough...

Oct 3rd was Ryan and my 2 Year Anniversary. We were traveling over to Austin for a friend's wedding that weekend and made it a great Anniversary trip as well! Here are a few photos of the fun...

The New Media Phoenix Intl Christian Film Fest

This past week, I attended The New Media Fest in Phoenix AZ. I was there to represent my latest feature "The Measure of a Man," in which I played one of the lead roles. I was VERY Blessed to be a part of this film and Blessed even more by my experience at the film festival.

Elizabeth & Greg Waite (Director & Producer) attended the festival as well. We had the wonderful opportunity to double our efforts in separate workshops & screenings and share with each other what we should take away each day. Our goal was to get feedback and some direction into a great way to find a like-minded Distributor whose goal is to get this film to the right audiences across America and spread the message of Conscious Family Development through Love, Music, Perseverance, and above all: Faith. I believe we achieved that goal and are currently sending out screeners to several folks (distributors) who inquired about our film by the end of the festival.

This particular Film Fest really inspired me to work more intentionally towards my goals. I was Blessed by a Christian community that was less focused on "look at my movie" and more focused on: Let's band together and Faithfully change the face of Media to reflect the morals & deeply moving stories of Inspiration, Faith, God's Love, Family, & Truth that the world truly desires-- Let's make better movies, better messages, and strive to reach EVERYONE, not just a safe community-- & Let's Pray for direction. I gave out SO MANY business cards, I hope that I can reconnect with those folks and work alongside them towards this goal!

"The Measure of a Man" was awarded The Audience Favorite Award at the awards banquet! Elizabeth gave a beautifully uplifting acceptance speech that touched everyone. The overall feel of the evening was loving and celebratory. XP Media did a fantastic job of providing a great outlet for artists to showcase and be rewarded for their work.

A breakdown of the week...

I arrived Wednesday night and stayed with Family. On Thursday mid-morning I met with Elizabeth & Greg Waite and got a rundown of their experience at Elko, NV's Ruby Mountain Film Fest the week before, where we won The Audience Choice Award!

Then I attended the workshop: Evolving Distribution by Joel Nori of Destiny Image Inc. Joel is paving the way for us to be able to distribute our faith based/family friendly films in this market. The workshop covered 'Navigating the waters of new distribution models in the changing market.' He focused more on today's market and the struggles and pitfalls. Though informative, it was more disheartening than I would have liked for my first workshop. But we still enjoyed it. I did get some great tips on where the markets are, what length to cut for approaching Distributors, other technical tips, and strategy of Laurels creating an Indie Brand Vs Commercial appeal... Good stuff.

Next Greg went to the Distribution & Funding Panel. Elizabeth and I went to the screening of "Reconciliation" Directed by Chad Ahrendt, CleanFreak Productions. 'A groundbreaking provocative story about an estranged father and son struggling to overcome heartbreaking consequences of their past.' I cried. It dealt beautiful and carefully with homosexuality & family. It has already been released if you are interested. They won the Best Drama Feature Award, I then got the opportunity to speak with Chad some more and he goes to Reality (a great church) here in the LA area. Small world. At the same Fest, someone was raving about my home church in Hollywood, Ecclesia. Its nice to see how much our community knows about each other.

The next morning I attended the Actor's Networking Session that was combined with the Director/Producer Networking Session. We heard from a panel of very educated filmmakers: Hector Marquez of Live Media Entertainment, Phil Tan: Action Director, Stunt Coordinator, Writer, Actor, ..., Sondra Martin Hicks of Heartstone Pictures & Winds of Fire Entertainment, D David Morin: Filmmaker & actor for over 30 yrs, and Darren Wilson: screenwriter & CEO of Wunderlust Productions. Learned a lot, focused mainly on Storytelling and the importance of STORY. They also gave tips on how to distance yourself from the 'birth pains' of creating your 'Baby,' how an emotional roller-coaster should go, always rejecting your first idea, and being Intentional.

I attended Package for Project for Hollywood by GMT Studios. The speakers were Alan Hauge, CEO of GMT & David Webster with GMT and White Owl films 'packaging film projects for investors and film companies.' The workshop was about how 'Presenting your project is just as important as the project itself.' They were VERY informative and are emailing extremely detailed instructions, resources, figures, research, and everything I need to get a film from A to B. I really enjoyed not just the info, but the faith based philosophy intertwined with what we are doing here. I really liked David Webster and had the opportunity to meet him later in the fest. I really want to focus on building that relationship (he lives in LA, so its easier) and learn from him.

I got the opportunity to see the film "Letting Go" by Lisa Arnold of COKT Pictures, nominated for a Judge's Choice Award and she won the Muse Award for best Actress. About a woman facing life & her relationship with God after her husband's sudden death. It covers the next steps a year later.

The Family in "The Measure of a Man"

We had the Screening for "The Measure of a Man" that afternoon. The festival was so kind to originally give a discount for our outside audiences coming to the fest for our film and then the day of, made the entrance FREE to our attendees! They are very generous people focused on the point of the fest & not the money. They blessed us a lot with their generosity. I spent most of my afternoon time meeting tons of festival goers and inviting them to our screening--something that paid off later with the Audience Fav Award. :) We spent plenty of time afterwards talking with fans about the project and enjoying the people who were moved by the piece.

On Saturday, I attended Everything You Need To Know About Hollywood by Ted Baehr. Ted is 'Chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, a division of Good News Communications, Inc. He is Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of MovieGuide, which evaluates motionpictures from a Christian Prospective.' Boy, did I learn a lot! I have only studied 20 pages or so of this Analysis so far. Go find the "2011 MovieGuide Report to the Film Industry" --some key points/quotes of this incredibly handy (and thick) Handbook were that there is...

A demand for better stories:

"The following analysis shows that movies which best reflect moral, Christian and biblical principles do much better at the box office and on home video than movies which don't," a call to arms "From this we can conclude that Hollywood uses its resources to reach the next generation better than churches? And, shouldn't Christians be doing more to redeem the values of the mass media?,"

Supporting evidence that we are moving in a good direction:

"U.S. Box Office 2010, 90% had strong Christian, biblical/moral content. 60% were rated G or PG. None: were R-rated, Had explicit sex or nudity, were anti-American, had 25 or more obscenities or profanities (LLL)...,"

Truth that doing what is right is lucrative as well:

"...filmmakers (especially filmmakers trying to make movies for a broad audience) have a much better chance of reaching the TOP 10 or TOP 25 Movies at The Domestic Box Office if they insert elements with strong or very strong Christian, biblical, moral, and/or redemptive content. Second, filmmakers have a better chance of making the TOP10 or TOP 25 lists if the keep strong or very strong negative, non-Christian, amoral, immoral, or false content OUT of their movie,"

& What we want is Good:

"What moviegoers want to see...-Good conquer evil, Truth triumph over falsehood, Justice prevail over injustice, and Beauty overcome ugliness...."

There are so many amazing facts & figures in this book, 80 pages of lengthy numbers/analysis/demographics/figures proving/..., its incredible to feel like I am now educated in this area and know that some others in the film/distribution world have consciously lied to me and fellow filmmakers in the past about what we need to do to make a sellable movie. The uplifting truth and support that what I WANT in films is what America WANTS in films, validates & re-energizes my quest.

I went to the next workshop on Funding your Film Project by Dr. Bruce Cook, President & CEO of Venture Advisors Inc. Wow, he really took the dry strategy out of the equation and focused on our relationship with God and relying on him for Direction. He assured us the money IS out there and how to approach that step from the right starting point. I was particularly blessed by his philosophy on investing. He spoke on being a Leader, being passionate, how God wants business to be a win/win/win situation, gathering industry pros, & connecting with an investor's heart. He is a successful man with investments in, what seems like, every single market. He founded and runs the Kingdom Economic Yearly Summit (KEYS) with the Economic leaders from around the world and is a great resource if you have questions.

That evening was the awards banquet. I had a great time and spoke with lots of other artists in our Industry and met with other leaders who I can look up to and seek their input on my future projects. I left refreshed and ready to start researching all the awesome folks I met and foster those relationships in the hopes that they lead to more jobs and more importantly, that we can work together to help shape media.

I missed out on more events than I was able to attend and was still changed by this experience, next year (Yes, I am going next year), I will do more. Thanks XP Media for this event.

My specific prayer is that going to this event results in another acting job, a closer walk with God concerning the Plan HE has for me, a freedom in being who I am here in Hollywood, and a Blessed Distributor to walk "The Measure of a Man" where it needs to go for Distribution/Success/Overflowing Payments to Investors.

Kinda New Representation

So, as soon as I signed with BRASS, they merged with Venture IAB. So now I am signed with Venture IAB Commercially and so is my husband!!! He also recently signed with my Manager at Midwest Talent Management. Things are going well. Still shopping for a good fit for Theatrical Representation (let me know if you have any thoughts)

Consuming The Arts

I submitted "Small Town" to CTA and they screened it last month! "Small Town" is a short film about a Beach Town filled with corruption and a web of lies surrounding a beloved Cop's death. The screening went very well, we heard a lot of great feedback and are excited to see it at Festivals later this year.

"Consuming The Arts" Theatre Project is a not for profit Production Company created by Aurora Lizardi and Carrie Factoran that performs in LA one night each month at the Lounge Theatre. Each evening is created around a common theme that changes with each show and features original one-acts, visual art, and an ever changing variety of performing artists.

The bigger picture is to raise funds for a tour across the US visiting low income communities that can't afford art programs, and presenting their students with interactive workshops that will raise self esteem and open their minds to a different way of expression. "

New Representation

I have signed with a new Commercial Agency! BRASS Artists & Associates. It was incredibly difficult to leave my old Agency. I still highly recommend them, but things change rather quickly for multiple reasons. I'm trying to take more chances. :)

The red carpet premiere was AMAZING and more exciting than I had ever dreamed. The Production went all out for the Red-Carpet, Premiere, after-party...

I had the pleasure of seeing "The Measure of a Man" on the big screen twice, the first time you see your work up there is indescribable. Hearing people sniff as you cry on a 50 foot screen is awesome too! We had over 1200 people show up and enjoy with us. Below are a few links to the red-carpet videos and such. The New Dim Bulbs: "Bed Heads" Short is in Post-Production! We have a guest Director: Marc Hampson who worked on the second installment of this fantastic series written by Scott & Paula Merrow! We will have the new short comedy up and running by the time Dim Bulbs: "You Are What You Eat" goes to the International Family Film Festival March 16-20 here in Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

I was also asked to replace an actress -who dropped out- in a live stage performance for CTA Feb 20th at The Lounge Theatre. I mentioned last month that I filmed a few commercials ...

I worked on a National Association of Realtors Commercial. Be on the look-out for a young couple introducing a lovely Realtor to their very intelligent and entertaining son!

I also filmed a Commercial for Little Tikes kids toys. I'm another young mom playing with my kids. It was a lot of fun and I loved working with the laid back crew. This is not the finished product, just copy for me.

No update on this one: I filmed a short film entitled "Cross Country Runner" Produced by Rob Fried (That's right, the guy who did 'Rudy") for SpiritClips, a fantastic site with really beautiful shorts. It'll be debuting on their site in the Spring...but hopefully asap. I'll be sure and post when it is ready to view. I'm very excited about the project, I really enjoyed myself and loved my son. You'll see!

I did so much over these past few months that I forgot to take a moment and write it all down as it happened!

Ryan and I spend most of November & December running the Variety Screening Series at the ArcLight in Hollywood. We got to participate in organizing and watching 30 fantastic films that can/should/will be nominated during awards season. It is a busy time and it makes Christmas vacation that much more relaxing!

I filmed a few commercials ...

Ryan and I worked on a Mercury Insurance Commercial together. Its alway nice to be booked together. Be aware of hearing the song entitled "Mercury Insurance has been good to me." In the Commercial, we are sitting in a coffee shop listening to a 'local' band sing a fantastic song about Mercury Insurance that gives us the idea to look up Mercury Insurance on our IPAD. I am wearing my new Ray Bans in the commercial, so you'll know its me when you see us!

I also filmed a Commercial for Little Tikes kids toys. I'm another young mom playing with my kids. It was a lot of fun and I loved working with the laid back crew.

I have a few more commercials coming soon...I'm on-avail on 2 right now and just had callbacks for another. I am the Queen of the young Mom Commercials. :)

"All My Children": If you watched, I was at the Funeral for Zack and I haven't been back yet...but I can be at any moment... More details next month.

I was asked to come back and film some re-shoots for "Measure Of A Man" (The film I worked on last Summer). I had a blast catching up with the cast and especially the crew. These were fantastic folks to work alongside. We re-did some very emotional scenes (because we had a great replacement locations that would change the look/feel of the scenes dramatically...in a good way). I was nervous about revisiting those moments for my character, but it was beautifully reshot and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. "Measure Of A Man" will be premiering on March 25th at the Historic FOX Theater in Bakersfield, where some of the project was filmed. I am excited about the premiere, I am probably going to be doing some shoe and dress shopping soon...can I borrow some money? :) Pictures of the reshoot to come.

I am going to collaborate and work on a new film with some of the people I met on "Measure of A Man," its going to be a fantastic project. Its a comedy...and I'll be playing a mom again... I'll write more later when I have permission to do so.

I'm not ready to share about a new Webseries we are working on, but I CAN say that we are 3 episodes in and having a lot of fun. We are collaborating with Director Tom Houghton on several projects in the future, I think you'll like what you see.

I finished filming my role in the upcoming Brotherhood Pictures Project "Tilting At Windmills," I'll add more later on how awesome this project is.

Purpose Pictures is still on hold in Post Production on "Frank In My Head," ending our hiatus on "D.U.M.B.A.S." soon, & in pre-production on the next installment of the "Dim Bulbs" Trilogy. Personal Life

October 3rd was Ryan and my first Wedding Anniversary. He took me on a surprise weekend trip to Solvang. It was a beautiful way to start the month! WE had a blast.

I filmed a few more episodes of "All My Children" and fell in love with the cast/crew/ and set. I cannot wait to be called back in. My recurring character, Colleen, will be on in Nov & maybe Dec...I can't really say more than that. :)

My debut episode aired this month. It was great to finally have content that was family friendly, aired nationally, and noteworthy/recognizable by all levels of the industry. I sincerely enjoy the fast paced structure and love the momentum on set. I recently had a workshop with lovely & Entertaining Marnie Saitta (Casting Director on Days Of Our Lives) so I can try and continue breaking into the olympic sport that is Soaps!

Future Work

   I am working with a new director on a Short Film due to begin production early next year and maybe a few small projects in between. I'll be able to share more in the coming months.

   I am playing a small role in BrotherhoodPictures, Inc next Feature. I am looking forward to that one as well! My husband has been cast in a larger role in that film, I am VERY happy for him!!

"How I Stand Out:" An Academic Essay on 'Why Hire Me?'

My manager, the beautiful Rebecca Eguia- DeLuca at Midwest Talent Management, asked me for 3 reasons why I stand out from other actors in my peer group: Why a big Agency or Casting Office should sign or hire me. It was a nice excuse for me to sit back and think of how she should sell me and what makes me special, *I am aware that it is poorly structured, so focus on the positive...

I encourage other actors (or ANYONE) to take a few minutes and write 3 reasons why they stand out or are different. It helped me realize what I want.

I am a struggling Actress with a lot to offer. Who isn't? I know.

I believe I am set apart by my observations of those surrounding me. They are asking questions I have already learned the answer to in my first year. I want to know what you learn in your 10th year. I am prepared to move on from struggling to working full-time. I am experienced, business savvy, I know what to do, who I am, and -above all- I am well trained.

I have an extraordinary amount of on-set experience, so much so that I have produced and made my own festival shorts and web-series that have fans all over the web. I know how every aspect of filmmaking works and have done almost all of them in my short career. I have worked in EVERY level of film in an acting capacity (huge studio flicks as background/featured). In The Greatest Salesman, my favorite line is "Experience is highly overrated" as in, don't wait for experience, you'd be surprised how much experience you create for yourself with self-confidence and being completely aware and eager to learn as you go. But I still gots it anyways (to be read with a cute amount of attitude)! I understand the nuances of lingo between indies, daytime soaps, and sitcoms. I have been blessed to be directed by several of the directors/1st ADs and others on set: I know how to deliver what is needed for the scene and am often complimented for it. I've been on every studio lot and I love it! I've worked 17 hour days and never lose my cool, I know how to do it with ease. There is a large amount of learning done while working, I have worked & learned more than I cam impart to another.

I have a highly motivated/good business focus for my career (Acting is a full-time job). I have taken a MILLION pictures to get to what I need that sells me best. I send out postcards CONSTANTLY. I regularly update my website and acting blog. I use my Pro account to manage my IMDB updates regularly. I do tons of workshops...as long as I can afford it. My business cards are in the pocket/office of every important person I meet. I usually edit my own reel- I definitely produced half the projects on my reel. I record my own auditions (in one day) and send them all over the country (I record, set-up, dress-up, film, edit, upload, and send in all by myself). I record auditions for OTHER actors and send them out frequently. I do all the publicity for my webseries' and have made good connections with my efforts. I keep track (as far as I can) of my booking ratio. Since (going fi-core) last month: 5 auditions, 4 bookings (2 cast without me needing to come in, and an extra one waiting for callbacks). Not to say I am a better non-union actress, but I am more able to submit myself for these roles with my chosen picture and my personal note to the casting director at the bottom of each one. I am not doing any better than any of my representation, I am just showing that I care too and don't rely on my representation taking me places without my hard-work put in as well: like a team. I work from home as an actor only, so I can do a lot more for myself than the average actor: I don't have to work a 'day job.' I am my own self-sufficient office at home. People come to ME for: new headshots, postcard advice, webseries advice, making reels for others, editing reels for others, designing/setting-up/posting websites, how workshops work, what's the next step, and everything under the sun! I also spend tons of time learning more on online networking sites, I constantly ask other working actors for their input, and am never too proud to try a new tactic. After reading many books on acting in the industry, Self-management, and tons of info from real Casting Directors/Directors/Producers/..., I am now into reading about Publicity/PR in "Guerilla 2.0" and "Guerilla Marketing," I will not stop until I am trained in every area of this industry. Once I have the credits, I am ready to work with a Publicist & prepare for on-camera interviews and dozens of other steps that I will encounter (hopefully very soon). I am aware of where I need to expand and am seeking professional guidance on where I can go next.

I know who I am and people want to work with me! How many 20-something yr olds can say that?? I am a real person. I am a pastor's kid with an incredible amount of GENUINE charm. I travel, I live life, I have a lot to discuss with anyone on plenty of subjects. I have a blood/sweat/tears earned highly-competitive BFA degree. I know I am a Maternal, positive spirit that puts people at ease as well as a dark troubled side expressed in my independent work and on stage. I have worked with PEOPLE my whole life and know how to keep relationships alive. After meeting with James Levine (Commercial CD) & Bob Lambert (Theatrical CD), I've been called into their offices and booked work or been called up and offered roles based on their incredibly positive experience working with me. Meeting Todd Sherry (Chuck CD) and Corbin Bronson (formerly MONK CD, Eureka/Chase CD), I am now on a first name basis with both of those men. I continually add onto the folks I am getting to know more intimately that will lead to a career with longevity. I have been complimented my entire life on my professionalism and maturity. I have the life-experience to back it up as well. I took care to be educated before I came here and am fully prepared for this industry.

I recently attended an audition for a 'mother' role in a film at 20th Century Fox Studios. I started the audition by being told by the director I was "too young for this role, we'd have to age you up quite a bit. She's the mother of a kid in High school" Despite the negative start from their side of the table: I smiled, said "Thank You," I had a good audition, gave them tears for the emotional scene, and left through a crowd of women in the waiting room more age appropriate for the character. A week later I received a call from their office and was offered the role. I'd like to think my casual demeanor in the face of negativity, my acting chops, and my actual life experience led me to the top of their pile. When everything is stacked against you, the part may still be yours if you do your part with grace, efficiency, and a positive attitude.

**I know who I am...

As an Actor...

My skills? Watch my reel, quiz me on my Chekhov or Shakespeare or Stanislovski (I was trained by a real Russian instructor), ask me to break down a scene academically by tactics/objectives/& the 3 parts of the appraisal, ask me to cry in a scene for you, and put me on camera for a test. I am confident that I am one of the better trained actresses walking into most of my auditions.

As a product...

I am a worry-free actor: I am on-time (early), dressed appropriately, professional demeanor, fantastic positive attitude, always fully memorized (very proud of that skill), I am polished, camera ready, well-educated/experienced, a riveting Acting Reel, I am going to do well in everything I do. I am ready to go, perfectly packaged, excited to really work. how many people on your roster share these qualities?

I am highly aware that I am blessed. I know I need the Lord to guide me everyday. I am deeply humbled by new experiences all the time. I do not wish to be self-seeking or proud to a fault. But I know what I DO want. I want to work, often. I am knocking at the door. I gave you lots of reasons to let me in...see above. :)

August...September...so much to share

LIFE

I went on a Vacation with my husband to Arkansas, Maine, & Boston. Arkansas Wedding weekend for a friend was marvelous, Maine with the folks-in-law was to die for (seriously, the amount of Lobster I inhaled was sinfully delicious!), and had a lovely time walking around Boston!

WORK

I have worked on several small film & Print shoots, got cast in the short "Ben Comen" after a great audition for them at 20th Century Fox Studios, I did Voice Over work for Variety's 2nd Annual "Power of Women" Charity Event at the Beverly Hills Hotel (where I got to introduce Lily Tomlin, Anne Hathaway, Mark Shriver, Kerry Washington, Ryan Kavanaugh, and JOHN MALKOVICH!), and had a small part on the legendary "All My Children"!!! I signed a hefty disclosure agreement, so the only thing I can say is that I am IN "All My Children" and that it airs on October 25th...that's about it.

I did a few casting director workshops where I met Blyth Nailling, Todd Sherry, Jefferey Drew, and Corbin Bronson. They all went really well and I hope to keep up those relationships for some good payoff in the future!!

I have had a blast, God has been good to me and continues to bless me more than my wildest dreams. I am praying for more work everyday, so call and cast me!

For our 4th of July Celebrations, my husband (Ryan Schwartzman) and I attended the '7th Annual Muetzel Family Chili Cook off!' in Whittier where we made the fabulously hot/delicious "Schwartzman's Vegetarian Gumbo Chili" which, we realized later, putting the word Vegetarian or Vegan in the title might automatically turn off good ol' fashioned chili loving tasters. I'm assuming we won 4th place for best chili overall...mainly because they didn't announce 4th place and everyone loved it so much!!

After that I went to my best Friend's Wedding in Spokane Washington for a weekend of fun in between filming "The Measure Of A Man"...

Projects

I spent most of July in Bakersfield CA, I was put up in a lovely hotel near some of the actual locations where Measure Of A Man's true story took place over 50 years ago. Press Release can be found HERE. Higher Definition Media cast me as the main female adult lead in this family friendly period piece about a father of 9 and their loving quality of life in the California Central Valley decades ago and the inspirational & musical impact he has had even today on over 100 of his descendants. I play Emogene (or 'Genie') the wife of the main character: Donald P. Bailey. The majority of the film is set in the 1950's and narrated by my middle child "Lizzie." I usually play a mom...but 9 kids is a lot to handle!

I had a blast working with such an amazing crew of truly upstanding folks and some of the cutest kids with which I've ever shared a scene. It was a very enriching learning experience that tested my patience, my skills as an actress, and definitely my resistance to life-threatening heat! Boy, is it HOT in Bakersfield! There were days I shed tears of joy AND there were days I acted my butt off to shed tears of sorrow for up to 8 hours of filming. I've never walked away from a project so equipped and eager for the next. So, by all means, give me another feature, STAT!

Trivia: I didn't actually have an audition for this film. I happened to be sitting in the same casting studio waiting for another audition I had that day when a woman came out of an audition room and asked "Are you here for The Measure of a Man?" I politely responded, "No." She asked if I wanted to cold read for them and I responded -as all actors should- "Of Course!"

I read for 12 yr old Emogene (they loved me, but I was a little old for that), I read for 30-something yr old Lizzie & gave them tears (They loved that), & then Sang Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer for them (since they asked if I could sing and I didn't have my music notebook with me...Andrew said "Well, that's the best rendition of Rudolf The Red-Nosed Reindeer I've ever heard!"

I was asked to come for a Callback and booked it a few hours later. This was a great gift from God. I am appreciative of that day in the casting office and the opportunity to land such an amazing role-- I feel I was undeservedly blessed by this experience.

"Measure Of A Man" will be debuting in festivals later this year. After that, we will be premiering the film at The Historic FOX Theatre in Bakersfield where the main characters had their first date half a century ago. Stay tuned for more information on the project's journey. I know it'll be a good one!

Now That I'm Back home...

Looking for more work, auditioning, and finishing my third Web Series "Frank In My Head." Post will be taking longer than we had anticipated as well as juggling with our film schedule to finish the 'Dim Bulbs' Trilogy written by Scott & Paula Merrow. Tons of stuff in the works, I can't wait to share it with you all soon!!

I recently booked a film, "Measure Of A Man" by Higher Definition Media! I will be leaving town July 5th and won't be back until August 2nd. I am being put up out of town for a month to shoot. It is a true story about a man raising a family in central California through the middle of the 20th century. I will be playing the main character's wife and the mother of 9 kids! GOONTheSeries is a hit. We have critics giving us rave reviews left and right. There are tons of fans and plenty of people boosting the viewership. We are currently seeking a publicist or publicity person willing to take us all the way through the festival circuit this year. Its a new web climate out there and we need someone to start a trail for our future shows to follow. We are missing ComicCon this year to save for next year when we have a lot more content to screen. I'll write more on that later

I have new Commercial Representation! I have signed with the Fabulously Fantastic Jordan McKirahan at JMTA. Ryan has been signed with him for a while now and I have been blessed enough to join his roster since I realized I have gone in for him for two major Target campaigns and other fun auditions as a 'couple' accompanying Ryan...so he got me tons of auditions before I was even signed with him...so the switch was a no-brainer! A new Episode of "D.U.M.B.A.S." aired! Check out PurposePictures.Blogspot.com to see Episode 4: Pill Popper. We are shooting Episode 5 in May. Feel free to send it to friends, the higher viewership, the better! We are working on submitting this Web Series to online festivals.

This past month, PurposePictures added another Webisode to their blog as well as a new "Folger's Jingle" short. While working on new Webisode scripts for both "D.U.M.B.A.S." and "Frank In My Head" (Both to have more Webisodes starting in March), we have also started pre-production on a new short called "You Are What You Eat" by award winning writers Scott & Paula Merrow. They are fantastic screen writers residing in New mexico and have won several awards and contests in the last few years. We are honored to potentially be working with them on this project in the next two months. We are slated to have this short ready to launch into film festivals as early as May, I'll keep you posted.

Ryan and I worked on a short in Irvine, CA a few weeks ago. It is very experimental, futuristic, and entirely shot on greenscreen. A screen test can be seen HERE. It is a short done by BrotherHoodPictures. We are also working on a 19 part Webisode Series with BrotherHood entitled "Goon." You may have heard of it before, we started shooting "Goon" in February of 2008. Its been a long time coming, the pilot should be premiering on May 2nd.

Direction

Ryan and I are working on getting more auditions/work in New Mexico where our Theatrical Agent is located-- and of course, working more as a couple on projects. I will be taking a few weeks off to reside with family in Albuquerque as more projects there begin production. I'll be setting up meetings with Casting Directors and other industry professionals Scott & Paula Merrow can muster in NM. I'll need your prayers!

Happy New Year and happy clean slate.

This is the month of pre-production work.

We are working on pre-production on two new music videos (One includes the use of muppets)! We are also pretty hush hush in the beginning stages of a tattoo-parlor themed feature beginning in a few months. All our of webisodes are getting a face-lift and new scripts in the next two months before we begin production on those again. There are some new animated webisodes with my husband's voice and my voice attached to key characters.

Be sure to catch up with us in early March for a lot of new projects to show off!

There are some good national commercials and festival-bound film auditions making this month joyful, so cross-your fingers. Oh, and I got a new tattoo.
